Blogiversary Giveaway, Part 1: The Gay Edition

Hey naughty kitties!

As you know, my blogiversary is right around the corner—March 29th!

To show my appreciation for the readers of my blog, and to celebrate my one-year with the Naughty Book Kitties, I’m giving away tons—and I mean tons—of books.

I decided to break up the giveaway into three parts.  The first being gay books.

One lucky reader will win:
  • a copy of BOYFRIENDS WITH GIRLFRIENDS  by Alex Sanchez
  • a copy of I AM J by Cris Beam
  • a signed copy of JUMPSTART THE WORLD by Catherine Ryan Hyde
  • a copy of HUNTRESS by Malinda Lo
ljvsn jkv bikvbiukwvebiboev

Tons of great books, eh?
Here’s what you can do to enter:
  • leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite LGBT book of all time is
  • include your email address in your comment
  • if you tweet about this giveaway, paste a link into your comment for +1 extra entry
On March 29th, I’ll email the winner.  See why you absolutely must include your email in the comment?  I’ll use a random number generator to pick the winner.  US addresses only.

One other lucky reader will receive a signed copy of JUMPSTART THE WORLD, which is a Lambda Literary finalist.  (Congrats, Catherine!)

Good luck!

PS—Remember that this is only the first part of the giveaway!  I have some awesome other books lined up until March 29th.  *grin*

My favorite LGBT book is Invisble Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. I really recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. Even though it is fiction, I learned a lot about the process transgender people go through from reading it. The author did a lot of research.

Congrats on your blogiversary!

I am about to tweet about this giveaway.!/dontsleepread

My favorite has to be Something Like Summer by Jay Bell. I love that the main character grows and changes the way that he views himself and others. He goes from being happy with a horrible relationship with another guy to being a more fulfilled man in a great, loving relationship with his husband.

Congrats on your blogoversary!

My favorite LGBT book is What They Always Tell Us by Martin Wilson. I can't pinpoint exactly why but I guess it's mostly the characters that I love so much. The book is great though, one of my top rereads.

*Lions and Shadows* by Christopher Isherwood.

He was officially in the closet at the time, so there's no overtly gay content in the book, but the closet was always a pretty open place for Isherwood. The strength of his talent was always to take his narcissistic self-absorption and turn it into literary gold with his acute capacity to observe and skewer character; doing this to himself and his friends without discussing the sexuality that absorbed such a huge proportion of his time, attention, and self-image enables him to transform this first attempt at memoir (when he was really too young to write any such thing) into a kind of universal template for creative youth. ("The old hate us because we're so cute. Won't you help?")

Oh, gosh, Brent! Just one? Impossible! You gonna tell us yours? I will choose Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan because I dream of the possibilities of that book. But So Hard to Say by Alex Sanchez runs a very close second because of the sweetness of Frederick and its middle school setting. (ack! I see that it's out of print/ not available@BN. Sad. Uh-oh, I wonder where my copy is!)

My favorite LGBT book will probably always be Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan, just because I'm a sucker for happy endings and very few LGBT books I've read so far have them. That and it's freaking adorable.

I can't choose just one! That's... impossible. I am very much in love with any book written by David Levithan, and I love all of his books for different reasons, so that is my answer. :)

I tweeted about it this fantabulous giveaway here-

Happy blogiversary! :)

My favorite GLBT novel is Will Grayson, Will Grayson & Boy Meets Boy following close behind. Will Grayson is great because it's absolutely hilarious, Tiny Cooper is a stunning character, and a million other reasons. John Green and David Levithan are a dynamic duo!

My favorite LGBT book would have to be Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

Before you roll your eyes and move on to the next comment, just wait!

I know that this isn't major LGBT or anything, that it only has a handful of characters that fall under that category, but I really loved this book, and each and every one of its quirky characters.

My favorite LGBT characters in this book would have to be the two Jewish boys whom Lily meets at the dance club. The ones wearing fedoras. Because, when I was reading it, I was imagining them both looking like Hayden Christensen (from his role in The Takers), and I was definitely liking what I was imagining. Haha. Don't hate me! :D

I suppose many say The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an LGBT book. I'd agree, so that one. It's just one of my all time favorites in general. I really love LGBT novels though and this thread gave me a couple new ideas. Awesome. Oh, and Invisible Monsters by Palahniuk is a good one...(first commenter)

Annie on my Mind by Nancy Garden will probably always be my favorite, even though it's really cheesy. I also loved Kissing Kate by Lauren Myracle.

I have tons of LGBT books on my to-read list, but I haven't gotten around to a lot of them. My favorite LGBT characters at the moment though would have to be Alec and Magnus from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. They're so adorable!

Lindsay said...

Okay, I know you said just one but its really just a tie! My favorite LGBT couples are Magnus & Alec from the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare & Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan.

Magnus & Alec took not one, not two, but three freaking books to get together and their relationship and chemistry is just so sexy. Trust me, if you have not read this book, you must!

& even though it has been god knows how long since I've read Boy Meets Boy, I just loved all the characters!

Great contest!

Well I wouldn't really say I have read a LGBT book, but I have read Dash and Lily's Book or Dares and The Mortal Instruments. They were both very good! But if I do win this I guess I will be able to read more LGBT books! =) Great Giveaway!

I'm still pretty new to the genre, so I haven't read a ton of LGTB books, but I did really enjoy Boy Meets Boy, Hard Love and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. All three were kind of amazing! Although, I think Perks is my favorite of the three.

I can't pick ONE GLBT book that I love the most - there are a lot I like, but my top three favorites have to be "Mysterious Skin" by Scott Heim (which was turned into a wonderful movie, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt) because its hauntingly beautiful, and strikingly real. Also, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky - not entirely about a gay protagonist, but handles the subject very well. And my most favorite of all, "Brokeback Mountain" by Annie Proulx (whose "The Shipping News is a great read as well) which is a really short novel, but an immensely well-written one, which will stay with you beyond the end of the book!
